
CHANDIGARH, Feb 25: City resident Surinder Kumar, earlier booked by city police on August 2, 1992 for attempt to murder (Section 307 IPC), was today convicted by UT Additional District and Sessions Judge G.S. Sandhu.
He was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for the years he had been in jail from March 17, 1993 to date; he must pay Rs 1,000 fine , failing which he must serve one more month in jail.
Kumar is said to have quarreled with one Pawan Kumar, a Sector 45 resident. It was alleged that he used to threaten him every time he would meet him.On August 1, 1992, when Pawan Kumar was returning from his shop in Sector 22 Shastri Nagar market, he saw Kumar running toward him. Kumar stabbed him in the stomach and fled.
During trial, the accused failed to produce any evidence in defence.
B C Gupta promoted
UT Civil Judge (Senior Division) B.C. Gupta has been promoted as Additional District and Sessions Judge, Hoshiarpur, by the order of the honourable Chief Justice and other judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
He is among the 21 judicial officers promoted as per a notification issued today, the Governor of Punjab, on the recommendation of Punjab and Haryana High Court.
