PUNE, March 24: A 55-year-old commuter lost his life when a State Transport bus bumped into an oversized speed breaker on a steep slope of the Pune-Satara Road at Dhankawadi on Monday.

Thakuram Bhayyaji Kale, the 55-year-old commuter from Andheri (east) in Mumbai, was returning home from a tour of Satara when the mishap took place. Kale had boarded the bus going to Mumbai at Atpadi late Sunday night.

Kale was fast asleep when the bus hit the speed breaker, reportedly bigger than the normal ones, in front of the Shankar Maharaj Math. An off guard Kale popped up and found his head hitting the bus roof. Profusely bleeding, Kale fell unconscious on his seat. His fellow passengers informed driver and the conductor after which he was taken to Sassoon hospital.

Kale succumbed to injuries later in the evening. His body was handed over to the relatives after a post-mortem.
