A rubber plantation worker in Malaysia shot and injured his son at home after mistaking him for a burglar in the dark, police said on Wednesday.
Mohamad Zulfaqor, 18, was sent to a hospital with leg injuries after being shot by his father, police official Ong Aik Cheng said. The incident happened early Tuesday morning in northern Kedah state.
The father, Mohamad Sobri, “heard some noises. He thought someone came into the house,” Ong said. “He mistakenly shot the son in the dark.”
Ong said Mohamad Sobri realised he had hit his son only when the young man, who had got up from bed to get a drink screamed in pain.
Ong said the father was being investigated for carelessly causing injury with a firearm. It was not immediately clear what penalties he could face if charged.
