BJP on Thursday declared Kuldeep Verma, who committed suicide in Jammu protesting against revocation of forest land to Amarnath shrine, as a ‘martyr’ and said his death would not go in vain.
On Wednesday, Verma (37) visited the spot in Jammu where a relay fast organised by Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti is on in protest against government’s alleged apathy to the shrine.
He asked the organisers for permission to give a speech and recited a fiery poem. While doing so he fainted and was rushed to the Government Medical College. He died a few hours later. He had reportedly consumed poison before going to the relay hunger spot.
“His martyrdom will inspire others to fight for the cause of Amarnath,” BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy told reporters.
