CHANDIGARH, Sept 30: Sandeep Yadav and Mandeep Singh claimed titles in bantam and fly weight categories in the 23rd Chandigarh State senior boxing championship which concluded here today at the Sector 46 Sports Complex.

Chandigarh Police will take on Golden Club in the opening match of the Chandigarh Senior football league which will begin here tomorrow at Government School ground in Sector 23.

GMS Club in semis
Government Model School Club-21 beat Coaching Centre Club-23 by 11-6 to enter the semifinal of boys group in the Chandigarh State Sub-Junior handball championship at DAV School in Sector 8, today.

In the girls section, Government Girls School, Sector 8 outplayed Sri Guru Gobind Singh School-35 by 12-10.

Cricket tourney
The qualifying matches for second Edmund Rice Inter-School cricket tournament in under-16 boys group will be held on October 9 and 10, at the St John’s High School in Sector 26.

Om, Godara elected
Om Prakash and OP Godara were unanimously elected secretary and president of the District Volleyball Association, Panchkula (DVA) in the general body meeting of the DVA held recently.

Madan Lal Sharma and Kamla Saini were nominated treasurer and technical advisor, repectively.

Vivek Joshi was nominated chief patron of the DVA.

Title for GMS-16
Government Model School-16 beat Govt Model School-37, 2-0 to win team title in under-19 group in the Chandigarh State Inter-School badminton competition in the girls group held at GMSS-23.

Under-14 title went to GMS-35 who defeated Carmel Convent-9 by 2-1 while GMS-36 beat GMS-16, 2-1 to bag under-17 team title.

Harmanjeet (34 runs) enabled Government Modcel School-23 beat St Stephen’s School-45 by five-wickets in the Chandigarh Schools cricket tournament at Sector 16 Cricket Stadium, today.
Brief scores: St Stephen’s-45: 94 in 24 overs (Amrinder 33, Hemantdeep 30, Gagandeep 3 for 13, Sanjay 3 for 13); GMSSS-23: 95 for 5 in 14.5 overs (Harmanjeet 34, Hemantdeep 2 for 16, Parmod 2 for 20).

Manu excels
Manu GB Singh beat Anil Walia 3-2 in the junior section in first Chandigarh State pool touranment, today. Manu GB Singh outplayed Kapil Chadda 3-2, in his second encounter.

Sandeep Duggal defeated Rajeev 4-0 in the senior section. In another match Manish Srivastava beat Maneet Oberoi 4-1. Rajeev got a walkover from Tejpal Singh. Harish scored 4-2 win over Narinder Bachan.
