Bangalore, June 3: Despite a late surge by Manipur, it was Karnataka which stole the show with a medal haul of five gold, three silver and three bronze as the fencing events concluded at the Koramangala indoor stadium here today.Manipur grabbed gold in men’s sabre and foil team events. Punjab ended up two silver, while Haryana and Uttar Pradesh took a bronze each.

On the whole, it was a rich harvest for Karnataka which won only one bronze in this event in the last Games at Pune. However, the hosts, who flourished on a three-gold haul by Claramma James, managed only two bronze medals today. Manipur beat Punjab 2-1 in the sabre team event and again in the foil team event 2-0.

TN men win in kho-kho

In kho-kho, Tamil Nadu notched a nail-biting 14-13 victory over Madhya Pradesh in a men’s preliminary round match today.

Tamil Nadu led MP 8-6 after the first outing. The latter, then, cut the margin only to stumble in the end.

In another men’s clash, Andhra Pradesh defeated Delhi 15-12. In the women’s preliminary stage, Punjab got the better of Andhra Pradesh 13-9, with Rajinder Kaur securing four points, while Kerala prevailed over Delhi 6-4.
