Manmohan Singh on Wednesday broke the 57-year-old jinx that no one without the alphabet ‘R’ had become the prime minister. Singh, who will be the 13th prime minister, has no ‘R’ in his name unlike his predecessors. Previous prime ministers including Jawaharlal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Indira Gandhi, Morarji Desai, Charan Singh, Rajiv Gandhi, Vishwanath Pratap Singh, Chandra Shekhar, P.V. Narasimha Rao, Hardanhalli Doddegowda Deve Gowda, I.K. Gujral and A.B .Vajpayee all had the magical alphabet ‘R’. — (PTI)From the homepage
