Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is slated to lay the foundation stones of two new railway lines — between Dahod and Indore and Chhota Udaipur to Dhar — at a place called Hari Bhai Ki Bawri at Jhabua on February 8. Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav would also accompany him.
Included in the Rail Budget of 1989-90, the 201-km-long Dahod-Indore rail line is expected to provide a shorter router between Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. This line is estimated to cost Rs 678.5 crore and is expected to be laid in six years.
The line between Chhota Udaipur and Dhar, included in the last Rail Budget, would be 157-kilometer-long and require funds worth Rs 608.25 crore. This project too is to be completed in six years’ time.
What makes this project politically significant is the fact that Chhota Udaipur is Railway Minister of State Naranbhai Rathwa’s constituency.
