Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would visit Manipur on November 20 during which the Centre would hand over the historic Kangla fort to the state government, official sources said today.

The sources said Singh would first arrive at Jiribam, about 222 km from here, where he would lay foundation stone for the construction of railway line from Jiribam in Imphal East district to Toupul in Tamenglong district.

As per the tentative programme, the Prime Minister would arrive at the Manipur university campus from Jiribam to attend the annual convocation ceremony, the sources said.

The sources said Singh would then attend a public meeting at Kangla where he would announce the handing over of historic fort to the state government.

The sources said the Prime Minister would stay overnight at Raj Bhavan here and fly on November 21 to Guwahati where he would flag off Indo-Asean car rally on November 22.

Meanwhile, the state government today requested the people to attend the public function at Kangla on November 20.
