The revival in economy and an unprecedented rise in overall demands have led to sustained growth and continuity in many sectors in the manufacturing sector during the period during the first half of the current fiscal.

According to a CII-Ascon survey “between April to September in 2003-04, out of the 134 sectors reporting production as compared to 131 sectors during the corresponding period last year, nine sectors have recorded growth of more than 20 per cent, 42 sectors registered high growth between 10-20 per cent, 55 sectors registered moderate growth between 0-10 per cent while 28 sectors registered negative growth.” Indicating revival in the services sector, out of the 11 surveyed sectors of the field, five registered excellent growth and an equal number recorded high growth, it said adding only one of the surveyed sectors showed negative growth during April to September this fiscal. Out of the nine manufacturing sectors covered by the survey, five are in the consumer durables, three in the intermediate goods sector and one in the basic sector.

Automobile sectors including medium and heavy commercial vehicles, light commercial vehicles and cars, cellular services, housing finance and domestic software achieved excellent growth while audio products, air-conditioners, personal computers, sanitary ware and personal health care products registered high growth during the period.
