PUNE, Oct 15: In an attempt to tackle the garbage disposal problem in the city more effectively, the Pune Municipal Corporation has invited proposals from private parties for a solid waste management project, which will come up at Devachi Uruli on Pune-Solapur Road.

The PMC, however, has decided not to invest in the project in view of its experience in the fertiliser project opposite Vanaz factory on Paud Road. Additional municipal commissioner Deepak Kapoor told The Indian Express that the PMC would make available land either at Hadapsar or Devachi Uruli while private parties would have take care of the investment part. He said the PMC would ensure daily supply of garbage, the main raw material.

Kapoor said the city was producing 900 tonnes of garbage every day. The PMC collects 800 to 825 tonnes. The PMC has invited proposals to manufacture organic manure and soil enricher. Kapoor said scientists say garbage would be the most useful raw material for producing organic manure. The corporation would get some revenue by selling garbage.
