The Goa Government on Monday issued a show-cause notice to Sanjay Dutt’s wife Manyata seeking clarification as to why her residence certificate submitted for court marriage should not be cancelled. In her application for registration of marriage, Manyata had submitted a certificate claiming her residence to be at Aquem, Margao. The notice was issued by Margao’s mamlatdar (government revenue official) Paresh Faldesai. Manyata has been given time till Tuesday to submit her clarification in person. Manyata’s certificate was used during the declaration of her marriage with Dutt, 48, at the sub-registrar’s office on February 7, pending final signature, which has to be executed within 90 days.According to Faldesai, the notice was handed over to one Kadam, whose address Manyata had given as her residence. The Kadams are friends of Sanjay Dutt and are involved in land deals. It now appears more government officials may face action in the case. Sources say the sub-registrar may also be suspended as he had allowed the registration process without verification. Already, the Collector has suspended a Margao official for issuing a residential certificate, something that is not under his jurisdiction.Civil Registrar Pandharinath Bodke has sent his report to the law department after recording the statement of the Margao Civil Registrar Chandrakant Pissurlekar, in which he has blamed the sub-registrar for serious lapses.Manyata had in her residential certificate stated that she was unmarried, whereas in her affidavit of registration she had stated that she is a divorcee. Civil registrar Bodke told The Indian Express that three points would go against the sub-registrar: not checking the marital status, not verifying ‘contradictory’ residential certificate and the civil registration application, and finally, personally visiting a five-star hotel to take the signatures of the applicants.“A divorcee should attach a copy of the judgement along with the application. Also, a divorcee can’t apply for fresh registration before one year of the divorce,” Bodke said.
