BJP national vice-president Babulal Marandi today said he would stay in the party to work on certain ‘‘loopholes’’, backtracking on his earlier threat to quit over the appointment of Yadunath Pandey as state president.
‘‘There are some loopholes in the party and as a party worker it is my duty to correct them,’’ said the former CM, two days after threatening to quit if the leadership did not reconsider Pandey’s nomination.
Marandi said he began his political career in the BJP, ‘‘so as a party worker, I have the responsibility to take care of its health’’.
But Marandi said that Pandey’s nomination was not acceptable as the party leadership did not take office bearers, MLAs and MPs into confidence.
‘‘If democratic processes are set aside, the party will be dominated by a bunch of sycophants. In this case, it appears Advaniji was kept in the dark and three or four party leaders connived to take this decision,’’ alleged Marandi, who is slated to meet party MLAs and district unit presidents tomorrow to chalk out a course of action.
Marandi also called on senior leader and former Gujarat governor Kailashpati Mishra today.
