VADODARA, June 2: The Marathi department’s long pending demand for its own classroom has finally been resolved. The department will now continue using the room it has been using, but with better benches and ventilation.
The department was earlier using a room in the faculty of Arts main building but due to lack of facilities, the classes had to be shifted to the Economics department. The students were then asked to shift out from there too and had to come back to their original place as the head of the Economics department objected. But with the facilities being inadequate, the students of the department complained and demanded a new classroom.
Former dean of the Faculty of Arts D H Mohite said, “The demand was pending with the faculty for a long time.” He added that the department needed a classroom and the amount for renovation had also been sanctioned but before anything could be implemented his tenure ended.
Senior professors in the Faculty of Arts said that there were also proposals to shift the department to the faculty office and demarcate classes by a curtain. The students however objected to this proposal, especially since funds had already been sanctioned for the classroom.
