
CHANDIGARH, JUNE 29: The employees of Punjab State Cooperative Markfed Employees’ Union today staged a dharna in front of the office in Sector 35.The employees were expressing resentment over the decision taken by the Markfed management for releasing Rs 4 crore for the Chief Minister’s Flood Relief Fund. Ranjit Goyal, the president of the Union, alleged that it had been done simply for political gains. The employee leader said the cooperative was making donations out of its profit reserves over-looking the fact that such donations would hamper the future of the organisation and its employees.
The employees demanded a CBI inquiry into the earlier contributions to the tune of Rs 4.66 crore by Markfed to the home district of the Chief Minister. They also criticised the management for not fulfilling the long-standing demands of the employees, like pension scheme, which had been approved by the board in 1990. They sought three time-bound promotional scales to each and every employee, new posts for new districts, car loan or conveyance allowance to employees and medical facilities as per the regulations of the Punjab government.
In a statement, two employee leaders Goyal and Harbhajan Dass, said the Markfed’s hard-earned funds should not be released like that. The statement further informed that the general body of the union has decided to file a legal case against the sate government and the management.
Syndicate Bank staff to observe strike on July 6
The employees of the staged a demonstration outside the regional office in Sector 17.
They were protesting the alleged unfair labour practices like victimisation of employees by the management through transfers, issuing bogus chargesheets against leading activists among others.
According to a statement released by the Chairman of the state committee, the union would be observing the dharna as per the decision of their national organisation, SEBU, affiliated to All-India Bank Employees’ Association.
Road workers stage protest
The members deplored the alleged attitude of the Administration for not implementing the order of the Supreme Court as regarding the the payment of dearness allowance.
The other demands of employees include regularisation of daily-wagers who have completed 15 to 20 years in service, release of bonus for the years 1997-98 and 1998-99, grant of uniforms, toiletries, shoes in time, issue of warm shoes, raincoats to all employees and implementation of time-bound promotions among others.
Ramgopal, general secretary of the Road Workers’ Union, said the employees are being harassed for the past ten years on one pretext or the other and asked the administration to take adequate steps to help the workers. He called for immediate action.
