ROOPNAGAR, Dec 14: Mohali-based Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandak Committee member Hardeep Singh has decided to launch an exclusive matrimonial service for orthodox Sikhs. Disclosing this to ENS today, Singh said the need for such a platform arose on account of apostasy among the Sikhs.
Adding that extremely religious Sikh families were finding it difficult to marry their wards to apostates, he said the proposed marriage bureau under the name of "Gursikh Sanjog" will help in tracing "suitable matches". He also said the services of elderly citizens would also be sought for this purpose.
Lamenting that apostasy has caused "pre” and "post wedding" troubles for the Sikh families, he further disclosed his plan to run a family counselling centre in Mohali. According to Hardeep, there was no room for divorce in Sikh philosophy and it was "the Hindu Marriage Act that provided for divorce". He added "in the absence of a separate personal law for the Sikhs, we can only convince our generation not to divorce and come for counselling."
Gurbani also, he said, provided for cementing the differences. He claimed that both the services would begin between February and April. Hardeep also plans to organise a "Singh- 99" and "Kaur- 99" beauty show next year.
"to give an answer to cheap and vulgar modelling contests". A turban tying competition would be another feature of the programme.
