AHMEDABAD, Nov 15: Max Page, the paging service of Hutchison Max Telecom Limited, has launched a unique privilege card `Club Max’ and a customer rewards programme `Max Miles’ as part of exclusive privilege card.
Associate vice-president, sales and operations Sridhar Rao, stated that membership to Club Max entitles the subscriber to a host of privileges. He said Max Miles entitles subscribers to value-based points and awards points to them for their past support and continuing support in future.
Rao said, "A customer is rewarded for just being with Max Page. As the tally of points increases, so does the number of surprise gifts and benefits." On completion of specified points, members become eligible for annual and biannual exclusive bumper draws inclusive of a brand new car and over 2,000 prizes.Besides these, a member gets such attractive incentives as free magazine subscription, special discounts at leading restaurants, hotels, shops and resorts in various cities, exclusive invitations to movies, plays, exhibitions in towns and free accident insurance policy up to Rs 25,000 each year.
Rao said aggressive competition began after several networks started in India in 1993-94. This degenerated into a price competition with no company trying to build up subscriber base, he said.
He felt that distribution policy of the companies was skewed as they targeted big organisations more than common man. As a result, market penetration of paging service is only one per cent in India compared to 80 per cent in Singapore. He expressed confidence that cell phones will not affect the paging service market.
He said that Max Page, which holds licences for Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Ludhiana, Pune and Vadodara, is committed to build up service-base relevant to common man. With a subscriber base of over 86,000 active members, Max Page currently has over 40 per cent market share in all the cities where it operates.
Launched in 1994, the company has about 6,000 members in Ahmedabad and 3,500 in Vadodara. It has a target of increasing membership in Ahmedabad to 15,000 and in Vadodara to 8,000 by the end of 1999, Rao said.
Max Page already provides services like People on Contact Directory, Spider Channel Guide, Voice Mail and Corporate Interactive Website. Besides, it tied up with the Indian Oil Corporation Limited early this year to attend to Indane consumers’ booking requests, he said.
