Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh has alleged that he was being pressurised to join the BSP, and also claimed he was offered an important post by the party chief and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati.
“I was told that I am a general secretary in the SP, but if I joined the BSP, I would get something more than that,” Singh said at a press conference here on Friday. He also claimed he was warned of dire consequences if he did not fall in line. “I was told that if I did not accept the offer, I would have to spend rest of the life doing rounds of jails and courts,” he said.
Accusing Mayawati of hatching a conspiracy to eliminate him, the SP leader claimed that three top ‘criminals’ were given the task, and maintained he had a recorded conversation to prove that. “If anything happens to me, this should be taken cognizance of,” he said.
Singh also alleged that Independent MLA Mukhtar Ansari, accused in BJP MLA Krishnand Rai murder case, and BSP MP Akbar Ahmad Dampi conspired to kill him during the recently-held Lok Sabha bypolls in UP.
The SP leader said: “Mafias Atiq Ahmad and Mukhtar Ansari are all set to join the BSP” and another heavyweight MLA D P Yadav is already in the party. “Anyone can guess whether they have threat from me or I have life threat from them,” he said.
Singh was in the city on Friday to plead his case in the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court, where he filed a writ petition challenging the inquiry ordered by the UP Government into allotment of a plot, meant for economically weaker sections, to him at Gomti Nagar by the Lucknow Development authority.
“I have the right to plead my case in the court as I am a law graduate and also the member of the Supreme Court Bar Association,” Singh said, adding that Mayawati was unnecessarily targeting him in the case.
“The plot was allotted to me in 1993 on the recommendations of the then BSP chief Kanshi Ram. Then I was in the Congress party and Mulayam Singh Yadav was the chief minister of the SP-BSP coalition regime,” he said adding that his meeting with Kanshi Ram was then arranged by Jayant Melhotra who was then “a far bigger BSP leader then Mayawati”.
“I met Mulayam Singh Yadav in Lucknow and gave an application for the allotment of plot and there was no mention that I belonged to the economically weaker section,” he said.
