Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today promised Rs 20,000 crore investment opportunities for leading business houses in Mumbai.
Mayawati, who arrived here on a three-day visit, addressed the creme-de-la-creme of industry detailing several investment proposals in the state including the construction of three Special Economic Zones (SEZs) near Agra, Kanpur and Varanasi at an estimated cost of Rs 2,000 crore each.
Among the corporate big-wigs who attended the meet were Ratan Tata, the Ambanis, Kumarmangalam Birla, Ruias of the Essar Group, Videocon’s Venugopal Dhoot and M&M’S Anand Mahindra.
She said UP was the only state in the country to enact a Special Economic Zone Act. Further, the CM also invited private entrepreneurs to set up four special townships including the Web City, Medicity, Biotech City and shopping mall, along the Taj Expressway, at present under construction by private sector Jai Prakash Industries.
Meanwhile, the Mumbai police had to intervene and control a clash between Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supporters and a group of demonstrators belonging to the Samajwadi Yuvajan Sabha. Police said around 100 people of the Sabha had gathered in South Mumbai with black placards to protest Mayawati’s visit.
