Accusing Mayawati of betraying her partymen, expelled BSP leader Phool Singh Baraiyya on Friday claimed her ‘‘pact’’ with Congress for Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls had reduced the BSP to a ‘‘non-entity’’. ‘‘The BSP could have played a crucial role in government formation in Madhya Pradesh which is likely to see a hung Assembly, but with its understanding with Congress the party has become virtually non-existent,’’ Baraiyya, who formed the Samata Samaj Party after being ousted from the BSP, said.

Digvijay files nomination from Raghogarh

GUNA (MP): Madhya Pradesh CM Digvijay Singh on Friday filed nomination papers from his traditional bastion Raghogarh constituency for the December 1 Assembly elections. Singh, who will face BJP’s general secretary Shivraj Singh Chauhan, filed four sets of papers at the district election office here in the presence of supporters and Congress leaders. Prominent among those who accompanied him were his younger brother and Rajgarh MP Laxman Singh and state Cabinet member Shivnarayan Meena.

Vijaywargia files papers from Indore-II

INDORE: Madhya Pradesh BJP spokesman and Indore Mayor, Kailash Vijaywargia, on Friday filed his nomination papers from the Indore-II constituency for the December 1 Assembly polls in the state. Vijaywargia currently represents the seat in the Assembly and he won from it for the first time in 1993 and again in 1998. Vijaywargia along with supporters went to the Collectorate to file his nomination, BJP sources said.

Defamation notice served on Uma

BHOPAL: A day after Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh’s announcement to file a libel suit against BJP leader Uma Bharati for her ‘‘wild and baseless’’ charges about him, a defamation notice was sent on Friday asking her to apologise in 24 hours or face legal action. The notice was issued to Uma Bharati by Digvijay’s lawyer Ajay Gupta asking her to apologise to the CM for levelling corruption charges against him failing which a defamation suit would be filed against her.
