Commenting on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, General Secretary of the Samajwadi Party Amar Singh said the way she was functioning seemed as though she were some “mafia queen” and the SP her “rival gang”.“When Mulayam Singh Yadav was in power, he never tried to implicate any BSP leader or worker in any case. He never instigated Mayawati. But she works as though she has a political vendetta,” he said.Taking a strong stand on the issue of sexual exploitation of women candidates in the police recruitment case, in which several senior IPS officers and few political leaders were named, Singh said: “Although the allegation of sexual exploitation could not even be proved, it has tarnished the self-respect and dignity of hundreds of girls.” Singh alleged that the inquiry committee probing the case may have influenced the girls to make such allegations. “Even I can get anyone to record any kind of statement and that will become sensational news,” the SP General Secretary said.Singh also objected to the suggestion made by the Mishra Committee, probing the case, to conduct narco tests on police officers and politicians. In that case, he said, even Mishra should undergo a narco analysis and it would reveal that he had prepared the report due to pressure from the Government. He then asked why the Government had constituted another committee when the Mishra Committee had already working on the case and submitted its report. “Does the Government not have faith in the committee’s report,” he asked. Repeating Mulayam Singh’s statement that the party would quietly watch the Government function during its first six months in power, Amar Singh said that circumstances had led the SP to reacts sooner.‘Why is Ambedkar Memorial being demolished?’Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh said the condition of the Ambedkar Memorial, which has been completely demolished, reminded him of Mohammad-bin-Tughlaq. Tughlaq had first established Tughlaqabad and then got it razed, he said.“The memorial was designed by Satish Gujral and approved by the BSP leader. It cost crores. Why is it being razed now? It was not even built by Mulayam Singh Yadav. It is understandable if she had demolished the Lohia Park since it was constructed by Mulayam Singh Yadav,” Singh said.
