NEW DELHI, January 25: Mayor Yog Dhyan Ahuja came under fire for his alleged remark against Biharis in the MCD House today. While the Mayor denied having said anything derogatory against the Bihari migrants in the Capital, Congress councillors maintained that he had said that ``Biharis should be thrown out of the Capital''.The meeting began with Congress councillor Bansi Lal quizzing the Mayor on his remark, reportedly made in a symposium organised by the MCD recently. When the councillor persisted with his charges, despite a denial from the Mayor, the leader of the House, Shanti Desai, intervened. Desai asked the councillor to accept the denial and maintain the decorum of the house. Before he could finish his statement, Bansi Lal produced a copy of the evening newspaper which had carried the statement. At this point, Janata Dal councillor Zamir Ahmed Munna joined in and asked Ahuja to clarify. Hearing this, Desai defended the Mayor, saying that members sho-uld accept the Mayor's denial. Issuing an appeal to the leader of the opposition, Rambabu Sharma, to keep his party under control, he was angry that Bansi Lal had brought a newspaper into the meeting without permission.Rambabu Sharma, who had been quiet till then, came to the defence of his partymen and said that several senior MCD officials, including the Commissioner, were present at the time that the statement was made by the Mayor. He claimed Ahuja had clearly said that ``Every year, five lakh people come to Delhi from Bihar'' and since there were many witnesses to the statement, he could not deny it. The Mayor maintained a stoic silence during the debate.
