MUMBAI, January 31: With Governor P C Alexander putting his seal on the amendment in the CP & Berar Municipal Act, the path has now been cleared for the Mayor-in-Council system to be implemented in the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). This has also paved the way for the implementation of the system in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), as announced by Chief Minister Manohar Joshi, on April 1.
The Governor, in his order faxed to NMC officials on Thursday, has directed them to hold election for the Mayoral post within seven days from the issuance of the order, it is learnt.
