Following protests by the BJP leaders and area residents, the MC team today demolished the boundary wall of a petrol pump which was coming up in Pink Vihar on old GT road. Not only this, they even took the oil tanker out of the ground.
The BJP leaders had demanded action against the local bureaucrats for awarding NoC to this petrol pump in a thickly populated area. Interestingly, apart from the district administration, even MC town planning wing — which swung into action today — had okayed the site plan earlier.
A question mark has been raised on the MC town planning wing as well as to how they had passed the site plan in a thickly populated area earlier. It may be mentioned that the owner of the pump has also been accused of encroaching the government land.
While speaking to Newsline, senior deputy mayor Parveen Bansal said: “Apart from this, there are pumps in many other thickly populated areas well. Action should be taken against them as well.”
Bansal agreed that even MC department was also party in awarding NoC, but hastened to add: “As NOC for a petrol pump is to be given by various departments including the district administration, all are equally responsible.”
