MUMBAI, July 30: The term `men in white coats’ seems to be heading towards obscurity. With the white coats too losing its appeal in the international cricket circuit the Mumbai Cricket Association have also followed suit.

In a significant decision, the MCA’s board of umpires and the sub-committee that met on Tuesday, decided to do away with the white coat resulting in a new dress code for all the umpires registered with the MCA.

The circular issued to all the umpires by the MCA has a new dress regulation for all tournaments registered with MCA and will be in effect from the season’s opening event — the Kanga League. It states: “It is mandatory to wear a white hat, a neck tie, plain white or cream shirt black trousers and white shoes.”

The reason attributed to this change, according to the circular is, “in view of the local climatic conditions and the present change of trend”.So, the next time you don’t see the men in white coats at the maidans, don’t be surprised. It’s just that the times are changing, so have the….
