The banned Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) today unleashed widespread violence by blowing up rail tracks with dynamite and uprooting signals and lines, leading to the derailment of four trains, while trying to enforce their Tirhut-Mithilananchal bandh against alleged police atrocities. In their bid to enforce the bandh, MCC activists detonated dynamite to blow up tracks near Nadda on Narkatiaganj-Gorakhpur section under Samastipur division of East Central Railway (ECR). This caused derailment of three bogies of the Gorakhpur-Narkatiaganj passenger train along with the engine. No casualties were, however, reported. The MCC ultras waved placards and fixed banners in the front and the rear of the train against alleged police atrocities on them, Railway sources said. They also blew up about 70 metres of the track near Pipra station between Muzzafarpur and Sugauli under the same division and damaged signals and points, sources said. They added that an accident was averted as the driver of the Raxual-Muzaffarpur train applied the emergency break. The ultras also removed fish plates causing derailment of 285 Darbhanga-Narkatiaganj Express. Here too no casualties have been reported. Damaged tracks led to derailment of three coaches of 521 Kurla-Darbhanga Express at Rambhadrapur near Samastipur, they said. An engine and two bogies of a passenger train were derailed at Barginia on Samastipur-Darbhanga section as ultras removed the tracks.ECR General Manager R.S. Varshney said at Patna that it would take at least 10 to 12 hours to restore normal traffic between Muzaffarpur-Gorakhpur section.
