Gujarat CM designate Narendra Modi isn’t just flying high on his poll victory, he’s also set to touch new heights this Uttarayan. After being the poster boy for the BJP and the face that’s hogged the TV spotlight for the better part of the year, he’s also caught the fancy of kite-makers. In fact, many kite-makers have chosen him over filmstars this year. ‘‘Har baar abhineta ka jadoo chalta tha, paar aab neta ka chalega,’’ says Vandesh Joshi of Maharaj Patang, Gendigate. It’s not just Modi who’s making his presence felt this Uttarayan. Joshi has got a veritable who’s who of politicians lined up, including Shanker Sinh Vaghela and Sonia Gandhi. ‘‘Last year, we had Gadar and Lagaan but this time it’s definitely going to be Modi. In fact, his kites have already become a rage with youngsters here,’’ adds Joshi. Orders for Modi kites have already flooded the dealer. ‘‘These kites have also been bought in wholesale by retailers coming from as far as Rajpipla and Jambusar,’’ says Joshi.
