MUMBAI, APRIL 6: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is facing a piquant situation regarding two of its representatives in the cabinet — Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Datta Meghe and Minister of State for Transport Gangadhar Gade. Both are not members of either House of the State Legislature.
Under the Constitution, if a cabinet member is not a member of the House, he has to be become one within six months of being sworn in. Both Meghe and Gade were sworn in on October 27 and as such, they will have to become members latest by April 27.
According to a NCP leader, since the possibility of their getting elected appears to be remote, they will resign on April 27 and will be reinducted immediately. "We are not sure if both of them will be reinducted or otherwise," the NCP leader said.
