People’s Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti has withdrawn her name from the delegation visiting Islamabad to attend the Parliamentary Conference to be held in August first week. Pakistan PM M.Z.K. Jamali and other senior politicians are expected to address the conference. The conference is being organised by South Asian Free Media Association (SAFMA). The organisers had sent Mehooba a special invitation. Instead of Mehooba, PDP has nominated it’s Rajya Sabha member Trilok Singh Bajwa to attend the conference.

‘‘It is good that people of India and Pakistan are coming closer. Since it is a parliamentary conference we have nominated our lone Member Parliament to attend the conference. I would like to visit Pakistan along with my people through Uri road. Our party is working on the road map,’’ said Mehooba.

‘‘Kashmiri people can play a vital role in cementing the differences between the two nations. As a confidence building measure, let Pakistanis send their ailing children so that they can be treated here by our doctors,’’ she said.

In the two-day conference entitled Pakistan-India Parliamentarians, Journalists and Experts Conference, think tanks from both nations will discuss confidence-building and conflict measures. SAFMA has invited 25 leading legislators representing major political parties, 10 editors/columnists and five representatives of civil societies from all over India.
