
MUMBAI, January 13: Krishank Shah defeated Anand Yesudian 8-2 in the boys’ under-14 first round match of the Chembur Gymkhana Open Junior State Ranking tennis tournament today.
In another match, Chirag Mehta was trailing 3-6, 15-30 before a net chord changed the course of his battle against Alon Moses at the Chembur Gymkhana. Mehta levelled scores 6-6 and then broke Moses before holding his own serve to take the match into tie-breaker. Mehta then prevailed 7-2 to move into second round.

Stanley nets four
Four goals by Stanley Fernandes helped Chenai College’s 7-0 to drub Sydneham college in the inter-college Hockey league-cum-knockout tournament at Khalsa College ground today.
The other scorers from were Friz D’Costa, Neil and Subodh. In the quarter-final match, a splendid display by Sammer Jada helped Rizvi College to playout a 2-2 draw against St Andrew’s. Sanjay Fernandes scored a brace for the St Andrew’s. The other scorer from Rizvi was Ivan.
In the third quarter-final, Khalsa Gymkhana scored a 5-0 win over RKT College, Ambernath. Ashis Gonsalves, Francisco, Aditya, Sanju and Kaliah D’Mello scored a goal each for the Khalsa Gymkhana team. Stanislaus in finalSt Stanislaus, Bandra and St Francis D’Assissi, Borivili set up a title clash for the Fr Donnelly Cup with hard-fought victories at the Don Bosco High School ground, Matunga today.
While Stanislaus upstaged St Anne’s Orlem 5-2, St Francis D’Assisi pipped St Blaise, Amboli 2-1 in the semi-finals.

Greater Mumbai Police (GMP), showing a lot of understanding and teamwork, put it across a fighting Marinagar, 2-0, in the Hockey Association of Mumbai-conducted Rizvi First Division league at the St Andrew’s School ground, Bandra, today.
Sandeep Jadhav and Sanjay Suryavanshi were the goal-getters for the policemen.
There will be no games at this venue on Wednesday.
WI Amateur golf
Harmeet Kahlon, the National and Asia Pacific champion, will be defending his title in the Classic Stripes Western India Amateur golf championship which will tee-off on Thursday at the Bombay Presidency Golf Club par-70 course here. There are 63 in the field for this 72-hole stroke-play event, which is a catergorised tournament of the Indian Golf Union.
Restricted to players with a handicap of 9 and below, a strong challenge to the dominance that Kahlon enjoys is likely to emanate from another scratch player Simarjeet Singh, also of Chandigarh, Amish Jaitha of Pune, the Maharashtra Open winner, Amit Luthra, of Delhi, and Sheeraz Kalra, runner-up in the Eastern India and the All-India event.
Prominent among the juniors aspiring to make history is Shiv Kapoor, of Delhi, who completed a double at the BPGC course, in the past two weeks, emerging champion in both the Western India and the All-India Championships.
