A ‘‘mellowed-down’’ Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi mingled with Sangh Parivar’s farmers, BJP workers, MLAs, police officers and businessmen. It was time to mend broken fences.Modi called Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) leaders for an impromptu meeting in his Sachivalaya chamber and promised to solve their pending problems ‘‘at the earliest’’.Also invited was former state Agriculture minister Purshottam Rupala, a known Keshubhai Patel baiter, who was entrusted with the job of liaising with the government and Parivar’s farmers’ wing the BKS.‘‘I welcome the positive change in the CM’s attitude towards the BKS. It’s in the larger interests of the government and the farming community,’’ Rupala said. Incidentally, the power tariff hike and the demands by the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh were not brought up at the meeting.State BKS general secretary Maganbhai Patel said: ‘‘The CM seems to have softened his stand on various farmers’ issues. He told us that we should forget the past and if Rupala fails to redress BKS can give a midnight knock on his (Modi’s) door.’’
