CHENNAI, July 17: The Madras University has revoked the autonomic status of the Meston College of Education here, for the 1997-98 academic year, citing internal conflicts which had led to the lack of a conducive atmosphere in the 60-year-old teachers' training institute. Review Committees constituted by the University syndicate had found the atmosphere and functioning of the college vitiated by a conflict between two groups of the faculty, and the college authorities' report on improvements had failed to convince the Syndicate.
