MI6 had files on Mohammed Al-Fayed

Neither Princess Diana nor her Egyptian boyfriend Dodi Al-Fayed were under the surveillance of the British secret service, but MI6 had a file on Mohammed Al-Fayed, it has been claimed.

An officer with the agency, identified as Miss X, told the inquest into the death of the Princess of Wales that she had conducted a search of MI6 databases but found no files on the couple or any evidence of a plot to kill them. Mohamed Al-Fayed had earlier alleged at the inquest that MI6 assassinated the couple on the orders of Prince Philip as Diana was pregnant with Dodi’s child and the couple were about to get married.

But Miss X, who had assisted British police in their investigation into the deaths of Diana and Dodi in a car crash in Paris ten years back, said there was “no plan whatsoever”.

“We do not go around killing people,” the British media quoted her as testifying at the inquest.Asked whether she found any reference to the Duke of Edinburgh, she replied she had not, adding: “I would just like to say at this stage Sir we don’t hold one, either files or cards on the Royal Family. I could do a search on them.”
