The Cabinet has set up a national commission to help provide education and job reservation for socially, economically backward sections among religious and linguistic minorities.

The panel’s mandate is to frame welfare measures, ‘‘including reservation in education and government employment’’. It has been given time until March 31, 2005 to submit its report.
