KOCHI, Sept 26: Justice A M Ahmadi, former chief justice of India, today lamented that despite constitutional guarantees, minorities in the country did not enjoy the freedom to establish and run their own educational institutions.
Ahmadi was inaugurating an educational conference organised by the Kerala Muslim Educational Association here.
The former chief justice said there were several interferences in the running of such institutions, depriving the minorities of their constitutional right in this regard.
He recalled that several cases pending on this issue were grouped together for speedy hearing and disposal during his tenure as chief justice at the apex court.
Justice Ahmadi also regretted that the absence of proper planning in the educational sector had resulted in the wastage of human talent. In this context, Justice Ahmadi said it was high time an estimate on the number of professionals required for the country was drawn.
He also regretted that despite 50 years of Independence, India was yetto achieve the constitutional right of free education.
