AURANGABAD, Oct 23: B M Mirasdar who has held many people all over Maharashtra spell-bound by reading out and writing short stories of life in villages, was on Wednesday elected unopposed to one of the most prestigious positions that writers and poets in Marathi literature desire to hold — president of the Akhil Bhratiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan .
Mirasdar was the only candidate left in the fray after his lone opponent Tukram Kulkarni withdrew from the race today, election officer Vijay Diwan told reporters.
The tall and fair Mirasdar who worked as a school teacher at various places in the State including Aurangabad, had along with another popular author Shankar Patil, pioneered the tradition of story-telling in Marathi.
Mirasdar who has mostly written short stories, has effectively captured the village life in Maharashtra. Born in Akluj in Solapur, Mirasdar has been actively associated with the RSS — something he is proud of.
The Marathi Sahitya Sammelan which Mirasdar will head is scheduled to be organised at Parli in Beed District sometime in December or early next year.y
