CHANDIGARH, Feb 22: The probe into the "missing files case" took an interesting twist as the police recovered the files from the Sector 26 police station.

The police were inquiring how the records of two important murder cases went missing from the malkhana of the police station. These cases related to the murder of Hindu Suraksha Samiti president Inder Pal Gupta and a watchman Ganpat Rai who were killed in 1984 and 1983 respectively. The UT Administration had ordered an inquiry by Legal Remembrancer Sanjiv Kumar while SP Baldev Singh was conducting a departmental inquiry into the episode. Surprisingly, during a search on Saturday, the police recovered the files from the record room situated on first floor of the sector 26 police station.

Now, what rankles the officials is how the files went missing first and then they were found later. While the police are continuing their probe, the Administration is conducting an independent parallel inquiry into the episode.
