The source of Rs 1 lakh seized from the official car of Director General of Police (Housing) Rahul Gopal, near Pune-based broker Govind Chandok’s Peddar Road guest house on December 8, has allegedly been traced to a government contractor, Prakash Ladda.Nashik-based Ladda is associated with the construction of a women’s police training school at Solapur, and state reserve police housing units at Hingoli and Dhule. The project at Hingoli itself cost around Rs 34 crore. These are part of the Anti-Corruption Bureau’s findings gathered after the interrogation of Ladda and another Nashik-based engineer, Vijaykumar Thakur, and will be soon tabled before court.DGP Gopal has gone on leave pending an investigation. ‘‘I stand by it (whatever he told the police),’’ Thakur told The Indian Express.Witnesses told police that Ladda gave the money to Thakur, who in turn delivered it to Chandok’s guest house on Peddar Road, on December 7, a day before Gopal’s visit.
