Former sprint world record holder Tim Montgomery pleaded guilty on Monday in connection with a multimillion-dollar bank fraud and money laundering scheme.

Attorney Robert McFarland, declined to discuss details of the plea. Montgomery was charged last year along with his coach, Steven Riddick, and 11 others in an alleged conspiracy to deposit $5 million in stolen, altered or counterfeit checks over three years at several banks.

Montgomery set the world record for 100 meters in 2002 and was a member of the winning US 400-meter relay team at the 2000 Olympics. He retired in 2005 after he was banned for two years by the Court of Arbitration for Sport for doping linked to the investigation of the San Francisco area based BALCO lab.
