At a time when there is a serious controversy going on between cellphone operators and WLL mobile ones on issues of turf, the Telecom Regulatory Authority (Trai) said on Friday that induction of additional mobile service providers in various services areas could be considered if there was adequate availability of spectrum for existing players and for new players if allowed.

The Trai said it was in favour of open competition in different segments of telecom market and has recommended accordingly to government in respect of the different services.

This move could open doors for the government to consider converting Reliance’ and Tatas’ WLL mobile services into the fifth cellular license and end all litigation in the sector.
