VADODARA, June 17: State Health Minister Ashok Bhatt has appealed to teachers of medicine to give society medical scientists with future requirements in mind.
Speaking at the golden jubilee celebrations of the Vadodara Medical College and the S S G Hospital campus here on Wednesday night, he lauded the teachers for giving the world more than 5,000 excellent doctors during the past 50 years. “Times are changing, and what the society requires today and in the days to come are doctor-scientists. Hospital superintendent Kamal Pathak told Express Newsline that at least 20 senior teachers, deans and superintendents were honoured on the occasion by Bhatt. The special guests at the function included Dr V C Patel, president of the Indian Medical Association, veteran surgeons J D Pathak and R F Pathak, and M S University Vice-Chancellor Dr Anil Kane.
Announcing a blood donation camp in which 150 units were collected, he said that future programmes to mark the golden jubilee would include cultural programmes, educational conferences, renovation and beautification of the whole campus. Wednesday’s celebrations ended with a fireworks display on the college premises.
The hospital, Pathak added, would soon have a full-fledged trauma centre, to be set up at an estimated cost of Rs 1.2 crores. It will have two operation theatres, a pathological lab, a radiological unit and an orthopedics department to take immediate care of critical cases.
