A day after four rocket-propelled mortar bombs exploded in the heart of Guwahati and left two dead and 19 others hurt, cops are yet to find a clue as to who was behind the blasts.

City SP H. Nath said the tail-fins of the bombs that have been recovered have serial numbers on them but nothing on the country of manufacture. ‘‘We are trying to ascertain who was behind these blasts that appear to be aimed at women and children,’’ Nath said on Thursday.

The locality has a mosque and a Kali temple apart from the Bishop’s House within a radius of 200 metres and police say there would have been more casualties had one of the bombs landed in the Bishop house campus where Christmas celebrations were on last evening.
