MoU inked for safety of Indians in UAE

Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi and Labour Minister of UAE Dr Ali Bin Abdulla Al-Ka’abi today signed a bilateral MoU.

Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi and Labour Minister of UAE Dr Ali Bin Abdulla Al-Ka’abi today signed a bilateral MoU. The MoU, the first of its kind signed by the UAE Government, will provide for the protection and welfare of Indian workers in the UAE.

As per the MoU, a joint committee with three members each from both countries would be responsible for its implementation and will have the following mandate:

• review employment opportunities in the UAE and availability of corresponding skills in India

• co-ordinate in the implementation of the MoU and take necessary action

• interpret the provisions of the MoU in case of any dispute in this regard and settle difficulties that might arise in implementation

• propose review or amendment of articles of the MoU whenever necessary

The MOU comes into effect immediately and will be valid for four years.
