LUDHIANA, JAN 21: With a view to accelerating the progress of research and training in various disciplines of agricultural research and production in the country and to further strengthen ties between Ohio State University, Columbia (USA) and Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, both the universities will exchange scientists and technologists, said PAU, director, Research, Kirpal Singh Aulakh, while talking to The Indian Express. He added that biennial workshops will be planned by both the universities soon.

Giving details of the MoU signed between the two universities, Aulakh said that as per the agreement signed between PAU Vice Chancellor G. S. Kalkat and president of the Ohio State University, on January 19, a steering committee comprising three representatives each from the PAU and the Ohio university will be formed. The steering committee will work out further details, including priority areas for exchange and also see if the exchange is feasible, besides identifying scientists, who will participate, informed Aulakh. Co-operation between the two universities will be strengthened through grant of fellowships to students and scientists, added Aulakh.

Hisar: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between CCS Haryana Agricultural University (CCSHAU) Vice-Chancellor J.B. Choudhary and Ohio State University (OSU) president William English Kirwan here last evening. The agreement between the two universities envisaged development of mutual cooperation in research, training and improving of production techniques and their dissemination to the beneficiaries.

Earlier also, the OSU had ties with CCSHAU during the formative years of the latter. CCSHAU Vice-Chancellor said that past association had inspired tem to renew and strengthen ties which would help promote and accelerate progress in research and training in various disciplines of agricultural research.

In the MoU both the universities have agreed upon exchange of scientists, technologies, scientific information and methodology, besides exchange of scientific equipment as available and needed in programmes of common interest. Giving details of the agreement, Chowdhury said both the organisations will nominate a staff member who would develop a suitable work plan and ensure proper and effective implementation of the agreement.

However, a joint follow up committee will be set up which would meet once in two years alternatively at Hisar and in USA to follow up the execution of the agreement and suggest necessary measures for its development.

The agreement envisaged establishment of mutual relations between the scientific and technical division of the two organisations and creation of facilities for exchange of scientists, technologists and experts.

They also agreed upon to seek external funds for the joint activities to be undertaken as per agreed biennial work plans.
