After the CDMA operators, it is the turn of Members of Parliament to demand an immediate action against the GSM operators for “hoarding” spectrum. A lot of MPs of different political parties have urged communications and IT minister A Raja to get extra spectrum released by the GSM operators and ensure a level palying field for all the telecom players. As many as 31 MPs, including members of Telugu Desam Party, Bahujan Samaj Party, Samajwadi Party and AGP, have written a letter to Raja asking him to direct the vigilance wing of DoT to launch a detailed enquiry. The MPs have also sent the letter to the Central Vigilance Commission, seeking a detailed enquiry into the matter. According to the members, the Government, which has lost revenues of about Rs 10,000 crore because of spectrum hoarding, should take steps to get the spectrum released immediately and allocate to new licencees who have been waiting for it for over a year now.
