Amarmani Tripathi and his wife Madhumani are taking legal recourse to apply ‘‘indirect pressure’’ on the CBI, in a bid to prevent the agency from ‘‘harassing’’ them for their alleged involvement in the murder of Madhumita Shukla.

Though she has not been made an accused, Madhumani moved an application in the special CBI court in Lucknow for surrender two days ago. Amarmani Tripathi has also moved a bail application despite the fact that he is in New Delhi on CBI remand.

“The applications are being moved in the court for putting indirect pressure on us. We are preparing a foolproof case with clinching evidence,’’ said a CBI official, on condition of anonymity. While Tripathi remains on remand till Tuesday, he is evading the lie-detector test and is not replying to crucial questions citing health reasons. CBI sources said Tripathi is not cooperating after he was confronted with Madhumita’s servant Desraj, the sole eyewitness.
