Mrs Bachchan SP candidate from UP for Upper House

The Samajwadi Party on Saturday announced the name of Jaya Bachchan, wife of ‘‘big B’’ Amitabh Bachchan, and four other party leaders as its candidates from Uttar Pradesh for the Rajya Sabha elections.

Reacting to the nomination of his wife as SP nominee for the Rajya Sabha elections, Amitabh Bachchan told a private television channel: “This was her desire and I can’t say anything about it…You better ask her about the nomination.”

The other candidates are UP minister Bhagwati Singh and party leaders Ram Narayan Sahu, Nand Kishore Yadav and Kamal Akhtar. The name of the sixth candidate would be announced later,he said. The Upper House election to fill 65 vacancies from 15 states is scheduled for June 28.
