JULY 7: Power generation in most parts of the state was partially affected today following the one-day token strike by workers of Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) in protest against the reported move of the state government to privatise power distribution.

An MSEB spokesman said 1.22 lakh employees abstained from duty all over the state, adding that 90 per cent of workers in distribution and transmission sectors and 60 per cent on the generation side had joined the strike. Power generation at Khaperkheda, Parali, Uran, Eklahre, Chandrapur, Koradi, Pophali and Bhusaval was affected and recovery of electricity bills to the tune of Rs 25 crore could not be done, the federation said, adding that police help had to be obtained at these centres.
