
CALCUTTA, FEB 17: Mukesh Kumar tamed the Tollygunge Club course for the second consecutive day as he opened up a huge gap on top of the leaderboard with a second six-under 64 at the Rs 6 lakh Wills Eastern Open today.
That took his aggregate to 12-under 128, seven strokes ahead of Feroz Ali who has five-under 135 with a two-under 68 second round. Vijay Kumar, current leader in the Order of Merit, was placed third at four-under 136. Twice Indian Open champion Ali Sher was fourth at three-under 137, while Uttam Singh Mundy, Sheikh Ali and Indrajit Bhalotia were joint fifth under at one-under 139.
The cut was applied at nine-over 149. Also advancing from the amateurs was Kapil Dev who shot 77 to be among joint second among the four amateurs who entered the third round.
Mukesh Kumar had 17 fairway hits, 15 regulations and 28 putts to add to his 18 fairways, 15 regulations and 26 putts yesterday. The second round today included an eagle on the fifth and four birdies, three of which came on the final three holes.
