MUMBAI/NEW DELHI, JUNE 23: While the government continues to dither over the sale of its 50 per cent stake in Maruti Udyog, increasing competition and imposition of uniform sales tax pulled down the company’s market share to an all-time low of 54 per cent in the first two months of 1999-2000 and sales dropped by 11.5 per cent. Maruti had a market share of 70.8 per cent during the corresponding period last year.
